This index presents historical and modern wars and conflicts taking place in the present territory of, or relating to, Ethiopia. Ethiopia is unique among African states because it has retained its sovereign status throughout the period of Western colonialism. The territory was briefly occupied by Italy from 1936 to 1941 after being militarily defeated.
