This index presents historical and modern wars and conflicts taking place in the present territory of, or relating to, Djibouti. Djibouti achieved independence from France by referendum in 1977. Some of the territory had been a French colony since 1894 (known as French Somaliland, then French Territory of the Afars and the Issas). The Ottoman Empire had some influence prior to 1867.
