Armed Conflict Events Data

ABOUT

For more formal statements, please see the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.

At this time, the OnWar.com website is focused on refining and expanding the Armed Conflict Events Data (ACED) set. ACED currently offers visitors a comprehensive overview of all the wars, conflicts and disputes since 1800. Each armed conflict is given a separate page on which a narrative, data and references about the armed conflict are presented. These armed conflicts are accessible by being listed on a series of indexes. This selection of wars, conflicts and disputes gives the student of history, political science and international relations an appreciation of the military and political situation at various significant moments worldwide. In this way, ACED is intended to facilitate research into armed conflict and education about armed conflict.

Permissions for quotation, reference and reproduction are granted for most purposes (such as student essays, course material, academic publications or media presentations) on condition that the source is cited. Although every effort is made to provide accurate and complete information about the events presented in the entire armed conflict events dataset, the material is provided "as-is and as-available" and the site offers no warranties, express or implied, on the accuracy or completeness of the information. Comments, suggestions and critiques are welcome. Please use the contact link available at the bottom of every page.

Additions, corrections and updates to ACED occur on an occasional basis. All inter-state wars based on the Correlates of War list of inter-state war were revised in 2019, since then work has slowly progressed in intra-state wars (as of September 2023, about 200 of roughly 300 have been completed). The site does not have a schedule available and, for the time being, there is no intention to announce or promote uploads to the site beyond what is provided here. Feel free to check back anytime.
