Batista's First Coup in Cuba 1933

Carlos Manuel de Cespedes y Quesada (1871-1939) was... ousted on September 5, 1933, by an army coup, staged by Sergeant Fulgencio Batista y Zaldivar (1901-73) in support of Professor Ramon Grau San Martin (18887-1969), who became president. Batista became commander in chief of the army and viritual dictator of Cuba.
