Calderonista Invasion of Costa Rican 1948

The junta made revolutionary changes by dissolving the Costa Rican army, outlawing the Communist Party, nationalizing banks, and beginning civil service reform. There was opposition to these changes; on December 10, 1948, armed Calderonista rebels exiled in Nicaragua invaded Costa Rica but were repulsed, while the Organization of American States sent a commission to investigate Somoza's involvement in the invasion. In early 1949, a Costa Rican constitutional assembly met, confirmed the earlier election of Ulate, and drafted a new constitution. On November 8, 1949, Figueres turned over the government to Ulate.
