This index presents historical and modern wars and conflicts taking place in the present territory of, or relating to, Eritrea. Eritrea achieved independence from Ethiopia in 1991 after a violent struggle. The territory was under nominal Ethiopian rule since 1952. Prior to World War II, the territory was under Italian colonial rule since about 1870.
