Military Coup Attempt in Spain 1981

In a failed military coup attempt (February 23-26), intended to restore the monarchy to full control, the Spanish cabinet and 350 legislators were captured and held hostage (February 23); but King Juan Carlos did not take power, instead holding the army for the government and defeating the coup.
