Rebellion in Gibara: Cuba 1931

In August 1931, a band of about 40 revolutionaries landed at the Cuban port of Gibara, seized the police station and town hall, distributed arms to the populace, and then moved inland toward Holguin, only to be speedily defeated by the army. Despite the failure of this revolt against Machado, Cubans banded together in secret revolutionary societies, notably the ABC
