This index presents historical and modern wars and conflicts taking place in the present territory of, or relating to, Burundi. Burundi achieved independence from Belgium in 1962. The territory had been part of the Belgian colonial empire, formally, since 1924 but in fact since 1916. Prior to Belgian control, the territory was part of German East Africa, nominally since 1884.
